Are The Chainsmokers and Kelsea Ballerini Collaborating Together?

The Chainsmokers are all about collaborating with strong female singers, as evidenced by "Closer," the EDM duo's 2016 hit featuring pop darling HalseyNow it appears as though Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart have their sights set on a powerful woman making a name for herself in a completely different genre of music: country.

In a since deleted post from 2016, The Chainsmokers tweeted at rising country star Kelsea Ballerini that they needed to hang out sometime. "It's like you're READING MY MIND," she replied. "I'm in." Nearly two years later, the producers retweeted her response and added "Kelsea you think they're ready?" She responded with a cryptic message: "I’ll tell you a story before it tells itself..." she wrote, including a slew of emojis.

The banter sure makes it seem like the stars have something in the works, which would make sense considering Ballerini covered "Closer" while on tour last years.

This collaboration wouldn't be the first time a country artist crossed over to EDM. Earlier this year Maren Morris lended her country crooning skills to Zedd for their hit, "The Middle."

On the flip side, pop stars have been going country this year, too. Over the summer, Florida Georgia Line dropped "Meant to Be" — a collaboration with Bebe Rexha
